Dear Lit Motors Community,
Hope you all had a great summer!Â
Autumn is officially here, and we’ve got an update for you.
Mini 1.0Â
We’re making progress on the development of our 2 Mini units. This month, the fabrication of custom aluminum mounting plates for the electronics, brakes, and steering motor was completed and they were shipped to Mike in Arizona. He’s begun assembling the core electronics, steering and brake mechanics, and mounting the subscale CMGs onto the Mini.Â

So far, he’s completed the integration of multiple parts for the braking system, and is progressing with the hardware installation & assembly. Next steps will be to install and calibrate the electronic tray and motor controller assembly.

Mike is also continuing with the electronics hardware and software integration. The Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) has been connected to the software and the interrupts were configured. These tell the processor when something timing-critical has happened, e.g., a data measurement has been taken or a data transfer is ready.Â
We use interrupts for things that have to be done with very low latency, in this case we must take the measurements from the IMU, calculate new motor commands, and transmit those commands as fast as possible. Keeping the age of the data small (like microseconds) is what we need for a robust control.
The IMU data interrupt is an important signal for the software. We run multiple aspects of the program synchronously with this interrupt, data filtering, the control law, and other communications in addition to reading the IMU data itself.
New Strategic Advisor: James Martin

We’re excited to welcome James Martin as a Strategic Advisor, focusing on intellectual property strategy and partnerships. James brings over 30 years of experience at the intersection of technology, business, and intellectual property. His background includes legal training, leadership in IP strategy, and extensive work with startups and technology companies.Â
He helps organizations explore licensing paths, align IP portfolios with product roadmaps, and develop strategies that support long-term growth and competitive advantage. James brings expertise that includes patent portfolio planning, licensing models, and structuring partnerships in areas such as co-development, strategic alliances, and distribution.
Â
We’re thrilled to have James join us, bringing his deep knowledge of IP strategy, commercialization models, and partnership development to strengthen our path forward.
Monthly Survey
With the expiration of federal EV incentives, the market for new EVs is anticipated to jump this month. With that in mind, we’re curious whether the news is impacting your behavior. We appreciate your responses and engagement with the surveys so far!
News that interested us, so we think it’ll interest you.
The team at Lit is nothing if not curious. We follow news and developments across industries that impact our business and our lives. Over and above automotive news, we will share articles related to design, cool engineering, green-tech and anything else that catches our eye.
As an EV company, battery technology is fascinating and news of a paper battery being developed caught our attention. And while it’s an entirely different type of mobility, this news from Honda caught our attention and also reminded us of this fun OK Go! video from 2014.
More updates to come.
Thanks for being part of Lit!
